NanoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, is a yearly, online-based creative writing project that happens every November. Both aspiring and established writers participate and write a 50,000-word manuscript in 30 days. To further motivate writers, well-known authors are invited to provide motivational talks throughout the month. Writing is centered around quantity over quality with revisions expected if desired after the first draft is completed.
The month-long even started in 1999 followed by a website a year later. The website signs up approximately half-a-million participants worldwide annually with about 40,000 completing their first draft in 30 days.
